If we feel that your pet will be better served by a surgery specialist, we routinely refer patients to the local board certified veterinary surgeons at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center.

Surgery Safety at Carrollton West Pet Hospital

Whether the surgery is a routine procedure such as a spay, neuter or declaw, or a more complicated surgery such an abdominal exploratory, all of our patients receive some sort of pre-operative lab work. This is to make sure they are good anesthetic candidates and to identify any problems we may need to address peri-operatively. In addition, almost all of our patients will have an intravenous catheter placed pre-operatively and IV fluids during and after surgery. Finally, we use sevoflurane, one of the safest anesthetic gases available; this allows for rapid recovery of the patient when the surgery is finished.  During the procedure, your pet will be carefully monitored by one of our nurses using state of the art monitoring equipment.

Pain Control During Veterinary Surgery

Controlling pain in your pet is of the utmost importance to us. Most patients will receive a pain injection prior to surgery, upon recovery if needed, and oral medications to take home. We use epidural and local anesthesia when appropriate for added pain control.

Carrollton West Pet Hospital will strive to make your pet’s surgical experience the safest, most effective, and pain-free that we can. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our surgical or anesthetic services and procedures.
